Merry Christmas to all my dog friends and to my human friends too! Christmas is a time of good cheer for all dogs, so if you are a human reading this, please remember to help your dog to put up a stocking before Dec 24th, ready for Santa.

This year has been a momentous time for me and the humans here. Some big things have happened over that time; some good, some ... not so good. But a new year awaits with all its opportunity and promise. Next year is going to be a great year I'm sure.

Well, I have my stocking hung ready for Santa, he knows I like bones best and this is my final post for this year. Just wanted to wish all of my readers a Merry Christmas.

Now here, in the picture, you can see my friend Jed. My dad says he was my summer romance but we are just good friends actually - even though he is rather handsome don't you think? He is a cross between a Basset and a Beagle - and we like to call him a Bagel!

Jed belongs to Nick and Melinda who run the Townsend Farmhouse B & B at Carhampton in in Exmoor. We stayed there for a few nights when my humans were looking for a holiday home. Me and Jed had such a great time running around the place and everyone thought we were cute.

Dad says we should have considered staring a band and we could be called Jedward - I guess there is a joke in there somewhere! Actually, Jed is very talented. He can wave goodbye and he can also do a 'hallelujah' style - both paws in the air - trick that causes everybody to roll about laughing. Hmmm ... maybe we could use that in the double act if we get it going.

Anyway, the humans really enjoyed the visit too. They said the place was full of character and they had a really nice breakfast. I know it was pretty good too because I managed to get a whole sausage all to myself.

This is my best friend. Her proper name is Pepsi, but I like to just call her Peps. We first met when we went round to Auntie Andrea’s house. Auntie Andrea is very nice and she has a very posh house which is usually bursting at the seams with humans, and they are usually eating which is great because Peps and me usually end up scoffing a few sausages while nobody is looking.

The first time my humans let me off the lead on a walk was when we went over the field with Peps and it was great. I ran about all over the place and Peps barked her head off. Peps is a bit older than me and she thought her playing days were over, but that was before she met me (ha ha). Now she runs about like me and I bark at her a bit now, just for a bit of fun. Oh, the irony is almost too much to bear.

The last time I was at Auntie Andreas, there was a big commotion and it was because a new human had been born; her name is Shanai Mya Saleh and here she is in the picture with my Great Aunt Marion. I really like my Great Aunt and when she comes over to our house, I sometimes do a little dance on her lap. One time I got really excited and managed to get right up on her shoulders and head. We had a smashing time me and Great Aunt Marion.

Auntie Andrea really likes dogs and she likes me and Peps best. I’m going to write my next blog post about her, so remember to stay tuned to the Darcey Dog Blog for the scoop.

This is my Auntie Lisa who definitely knows a thing or two about dogs. For a start, she knows that dogs like to eat stuff and especially, we like bones. Of all the food I like to consume, bones are the most wonderful because you can have a good old chew, and they can last for ages. I have got some that I have had for months, if not years.

Auntie Lisa works in the sales department at the company where my dad works and she must be very popular too because as you can she is also very nice. My dad says everyone is nice where he works, but some people are especially nice like Auntie Lisa. I know how he feels too; I like some dogs more than others. That sister of mine (remember I told you her name is Midge) can be a bit ‘nippy and growly’ at times. Dad says the same is true with humans; some of them can be a bit ‘nippy and growly’ too.

Now back to my favourite subject, which is food! Personally, I always think the bigger the bone, the better, so you can probably understand exactly how I felt when I got this lovely present from Auntie Lisa.

As bones go, this one was a Rolls Royce. I don’t know exactly what a Rolls-Royce is, but my dad says that means it is a top-quality bone. It took me about two weeks to eat it because I only have little teeth being a Jack Russell, but I did eat the whole thing and it was absolutely yummy!

Thank you Auntie Lisa and may all your prospects (whatever they are) turn into leads. I am not too keen on leads myself; I find them a bit restrictive, but I know you like them.

This photo was taken in my Nan's back garden. Now obviously in this pic, I am on the right. The other two are my human 'dad' and my Uncle Bramble or Bram for short. He's a Shhhhnow ... Schnow ... erm ... Howitzer - ah no, I remember ... a Schnauzer!

Bram lives with my Nana Joan in Tipton which is of course famous for The Tipton Slasher, The Black Country Museum and Faggots and Peas.

When I was a little nipper, Bram used to tower above me and look very menacing, but I have growed-up quite a lot since then. My mum says neither of us will get any bigger now, but as you can see, when I stand on my tip-toes, I am nearly as big as he is now.

We have been on walkies together now a few times. I have shown Bram all my favourite places to frolick and gambol (Oh yes - frolick gambol - those activities are not just for reserved for our equine friends you know). As you can see, I am beginning to get a decent grasp on the human language now.

We went on a walk together in the park at Tipton when I was just a tiny dot and I remember chasing this goose (a Canadian fellow, I believe) and I fell in the lake - it was freezing! Well, that's about all I can think of to say about Bram and Tipton. There's not a great deal I can think of to say about Tipton really. As for Bram, I wonder what he is buying me for Christmas?

This is me and Uncle Stephen. The photo was taken at Uncle Stephen's birthday party. He's a very nice man - as you can probably tell. I like him because he let's me sit or lay down right in front of the fire, which is the best spot in the house.

Now talking about birthdays, it got me thinking: how come I've never had a birthday party? If humans can have them, why not us dogs? I have plenty of dog friends I could invite round to our place for a bonio or two.

Let me see: there's Pepsi, Tommy and Millie for a start. And then there are all the dogs I meet on my normal walkies. All would be welcome - except that rough-coated nasty little devil who keeps yapping at me - whatever his name is.

Now what presents should they bring for me? Well that's got me thinking. If you are a Jack Russell owner, you might want to know what your pet would like, so here is my list of ideal Jack Russell gifts ...

Top 5 Gifts I would Like

1. New Collar - yes, I know it's like the old hat joke, but it would still be nice.
2. Claw Clipping Session - a bit of pampering.
3. Meat - remember: dogs like meat!
4. Treats - we all like treats and remember that dogs like edible ones
5. Toys - especially ones you can tug - I really like them!

Top 5 Gifts to Avoid

1. Coats - let's face it, they look stupid! No dog in its right mind would wear one.
2. Dog Shampoo - yuk - it stinks!
3. Pills - they're stupid things. Hardly any calories or nutritional value at all.
4. Harnesses of all descriptions - we don't like them at all.
5. Muzzles - let's face it, would you wear one?

Well that's about it for now. If you get an invutation to my birthday party, which will be in May next year when I am 2 years old, you can buy me something from the good list.

OK - so I have been working on my new Header Graphic for the Blog. Well Here it is - I hope you like it! If I do say so myself, don't you think I'm rather cute?

Because, we may get other animals popping in here from time to time and I don't want to discourage them - let's face it, there are not enough animal blogs on the internet - I have decided the blog is going to provide News and Views for animals everywhere, but with special focus on dogs and dog issues.

To all my dog friends, this is not a cop-out. We will still be talking mainly about dog things here, but I think I just upset next-doors cat (Oscar) when I was telling him about the new blog. I think I upset him anyway - he just ran off when I went over. I hard hardly got the words 'guess what, I've got a new dog blog' out of my mouth and he was gone!
